Town of Murray and Orleans County Maps
Local stories tell of Walter Brown who owned a cobblestone house near Brockville in the Town of Murrey. Mr. Brown was disturbed about paying the taxes on the house and set a[n explosive] charge to eliminate his problem. The house was demolished in the 1940's and, as yet, no pictures of the structure have been found. "Chapter III Cobblestone Buildings", included in the Millville Blacksmith Shop text, by Delia Robinson, "Architecture Destroyed in Orleans County, New York", by C. W. Lattin, Orleans County Historian, November 1984. Published by the Cobblestone Society.

Walter Brown was the great great nephew of Sylvester Brown who built and lived decades before in the Mur-6 Applegate 1840 cobblestone house at 3827 Transit Road, Town of Murray. The two cobblestone homes were about 4 miles apart in a direct line. Cobblestone historian Delia Robinson researched the family genealogy in the the book "Ancestors of Florence Julia Brown and Some of Their Descendants" by Walter L. and M. T. Brown to determine their family relationship.
